Jakarta (Indonesia) : Almost 50 people were killed after a strong tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit a coastal Indonesian city on Friday.
The director of Undata Regional Hospital, Komang Adi Sujendra, in Palu, Central Sulawesi, announced in a short video on Saturday that the hospital recorded that at least 30 have died as a result of the earthquake that rocked the province on Friday afternoon. After the massive earthquake hit, Komang said, access to electricity, water and internet systems was cut off, making it difficult for doctors to help patients.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology said telecommunication services in Donggala and affected areas have been cut off due to an electricity blackout after the main quake.
“Telecommunication operators have been trying to use mobile backup power to reactivate the telecommunication network,” Minister Rudiantara said in a press statement on Friday night.
